Ride Dates
Instructor-Led Rides: June 22,
July 27, August 31, and October 5
These are free, informal rides meeting at the
Movie Gallery parking lot at 9:30 on Sunday mornings. We check the fit
of the helmet and the roadability of the bicycle and discuss how we ride and
want to ride before setting off for a 2-hour ride on the rail trail, city
streets, and country roads. Nobody gets "dropped".
Riders need to bring a working bicycle, a cycling helmet. Water might
be a good idea, too.
Road 1 (2 day class): June 21/July
12 and July 19/August 30
This is the League of American Bicyclists'
Flagship road riding course. By the end of the course, participants
will be able to: Ensure that their helmet fits properly; do a
pre-ride safety check of their bicycle; change a flat tire;
recognize and avoid visual, surface, and collision hazards; enter an
intersection properly to leave it to their destination; understand how
to ride in bike lanes and on recreational paths; know the laws
governing bicycling in Massachusetts; and bicycle safely and legally on a
wide range of city streets and country roads. The fee (combined for
both days) is $80. Registration is required as class size is limited.
